Hair transplant is a surgical procedure which involves transplanting hair follicles from one part of the head to another, where hair is thinning or receding. Follicles are taken from the segment called ‘donor site’ and then transplanted to the section called ‘recipient site’.
Usually performed as a day care procedure under local anesthesia, Hair transplant takes 6-10 hours to be completed depending upon the number of grafts to be transplanted.
In this process, random permanent follicular units are extracted from the back or the sides of the scalp which is commonly called the safe zone. These units are then carefully and gently planted into balding or thinning area at the exact angle, depth, and direction of the existing ones. The result is a very natural feather-like hairline and does not hold any imitated look.
We are currently using the latest FUE technique with follicular unit implantation for hair transplant. The cost of hair transplant and number of grafts required by a person varies tremendously from patient to patient. It depends on the degree of baldness in the frontal, temporal, mid-scalp and vertex (crown) areas, an area with the potential of baldness, the safe donor supply of the patient’s hair follicles, the texture of the patient’s hair, density required and other specific goals of the patient.
FUE Hair transplant today is practically risk-free and very well tolerated. The hair transplant procedure has no major side effects or complication. Within 24 hours small crusts will form on each graft site known as scabs which then shed in 2 weeks time. The transplanted hair will start to grow naturally by 10-16 weeks after the procedure and will continue to grow for most of one’s life.
